What are spin echoes ?

When studying solid-state samples with pulsed EPR, one can choose from a lot of experiments differing in their pulse sequences, i.e. how and when microwave pulses are applied. Most of the experiments take advantage of one common phenomenon, the electron spin echo (ESE). It is a spin physics variant of the acoustical echo.
