Echoes in Music

The composers of the 17th and 18th century often made use of echo effects. A particularly nice example can be found in the Aria 39 of the "Weihnachts-Oratorium" by Johann Sebastian Bach. He even introduces an Echo soprano just for this part of the oratorio. The corresponding sheet music together with the text for the soprano and the echo soprano are shown below.
